Walk with Ryan
Story
In 2013 I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. It has been a tough road, and we continue to have challenges. Whilst I have made five years, the 10 year milestone seems a long way away. I have had a few places where my pancreatic cancer has turned up, in my liver, my lymph system and my spine, and each new find is a devastating. Whilst I have been able to treat each of these, each has created problems like more treatment or surgery. Maybe next time it will be more complicated or I won't be able to treat it, so I am raising as much money as I can now. I appreciate those who has supported me through n the past, and those who are supporting me now. If we find better ways to treat pancreatic cancer, more people will be able to live longer, do more, and build more memories, something I am always trying to do.
In 2019 in excess of 3,100 Australians are estimated to be diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Only 8.8% of Pancreatic Cancer patients survive more than five years, and the median survival rate is between three and six months.
The Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation is the only foundation in Australia dedicated exclusively to Pancreatic Cancer. It is named after Avner Nahmani who was diagnosed with incurable, inoperable Pancreatic Cancer in September 2007 and died thirteen months later. Like many others who have experienced this disease or witnessed it taking hold of a loved one, Avner, and his wife Caroline, wanted to raise money for this chronically underfunded disease and be able to offer future patients hopes of a better outcome.
The Vision of the Foundation is - "To break through 40 years of no progress by doubling the number of people who survive Pancreatic Cancer by 2020"
I am aiming to raise money to assist the Avner Foundation in achieving this vision and I welcome any contribution, great or small, that you can make!
